On this day: the sinking of the SS Iron Knight

On the 8th of February, 1943, a Japanese torpedo was fired at the Australian SS Iron Knight off the coast of southern New South Wales. The ship was sunk and dozens were killed.

The wreck of the ship was discovered near Bermagui, about 250 kilometres from Australia’s capital city, Canberra.
