On this day: the Fullerton massacre

Monica Silbas is tended to by paramedics outside the Cal State Fullerton Library where she witnessed Edward Allaway moving through the basement with a rifle.

On the 12th of July, 1976, a mass shooting occurred at California State University, Fullerton.

Thirty-seven year old custodian Edward Charles Allaway, armed with a weapon he purchased at Kmart, killed seven people and wounded two others in the campus’ library.

After fleeing the scene, he went to a hotel and called police to tell them what he had done.

Over the course of his trial it was revealed that not long before the shooting spree he had threatened his wife with a knife and raped her.

Allaway is currently held at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino.
